Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, said Thursday raising the debt ceiling time and time again will only leave the current generation's children in more debt.
Gohmert spoke with Howie Carr on Newsmax TV and said he is not sure what to make of President Donald Trump's deal Wednesday night with Democrats that resulted in raising the debt ceiling and providing aid to victims of Hurricane Harvey.

"I'm not sure quite what to think," Gohmert said. "We had a chance to do a lot of good, the debt ceiling, it will have to be raised, but it ought to have some restraints to save future generations from our own indebtedness and our own immorality where we, for the first time in American history, decided that we don't want our children to live better than we do.
"We're going to spend their money during our generation and leave them the debt."
The deal struck between Trump and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., was approved Thursday by the Senate and now must be passed in the House.
Gohmert said he trusts Trump's judgment since he is a skilled negotiator and knows how to get the right deal.
"He's the master dealmaker, and I don't mean that sarcastically, I mean that for real," Gohmert said. "He's an amazing dealmaker. I know what he had in his mind. I've come to respect his judgment on making deals, so I can't really say he got rolled."
