Linda McMahon: State, Local Tax Deduction Still in Discussion

Wednesday, 15 November 2017 06:54 PM

Compromises will help forge the "best deal" on tax reform — including on the controversial proposed end of state and local deductions, Small Business Administration head Linda McMahon said Wednesday.

In an interview on "The Howie Carr Show" on Newsmax TV, the co-founder and former chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment said the loss of those deductions — which hits hardest on residents of high-tax states like New York, New Jersey and California — "is still open for discussion."

"I think amendments will be offered and then when we finally get into conference on this bill, I think we’re going to come out with a really good tax reform package," she said.

"When I came to the negotiating table I knew that the best deals were the ones that when both sides walked away getting part of what they wanted. But they weren’t going to get all of what they wanted because those deals lasted."

McMahon said she now visited 26 of the 68 district offices of the Small Business Administration and "without fail, every small business roundtable or every small business that I have toured and visited, [I] was told that if there were tax cuts and these business owners had more money in their pocket, they would reinvest it in their business, they would raise wages, they could provide more benefits, they could produce more goods or services, they might even open a second location."

She also said she’s hoping to encourage "a real look at our educational system and the emphasis that we put on four-year education versus training for our trades and our technical opportunities."

"There are 6 million jobs available in this country and we don’t have the workforce to fill those jobs," she said.
