Country music icon Lee Greenwood lives in Franklin, Tennessee, which is south of Nashville, and he told Newsmax Tuesday he is well aware of the dangers of tornadoes, a series of which tore through the state over the weekend, killing six and injuring dozens of others.
“It's not strange to America. They have them all over the country,” Greenwood, known best for his patriotic anthem, “God Bless the U.S.A.,” told “Newsline.” “That's the first one we had in a while right here in our backyard.”
The tornadoes swept through northern Tennessee, including Clarksville, and also hit Goodlettsville and Hendersonville just north of Nashville.
“I was just talking to one of the Oak Ridge Boys, Duane Allen, and he was telling me their building got hit up there in Hendersonville, but not too bad,” said Greenwood, who was not at home last weekend. His wife Kimberly was at home, but the storm hit just north of where she was, and she is OK.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families that lost the folks there in Hendersonville.”
Greenwood said he had a friend in Goodlettsville who lost their entire home and what he wanted was a Bible, so he sent him his “God Bless the U.S.A.” Bible, a King James version that includes founding documents such as the Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights, and a hand-written copy of the lyrics to his hit song. It is available on his website.
“This is very special to all those people who would like to have one on their table,” Greenwood said. “This is leather-bound [and] is absolutely beautiful.”
