Former U.S. Treasury Secretary and Harvard professor Lawrence Summers takes a thoughtful look back and forward at the U.S. economy as the featured guest on "Wall Street Week" on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m./ET on Newsmax TV.
In his wide-ranging interview on the iconic interview program, Summers views the nation in desperate need of "more fiscal policy and less monetary policy to push the economy forward."
He also urges spending on infrastructure as "a huge opportunity" to do just that, touting the strategy as "a better way than with an extraordinarily easy monetary policy."
"It is about having more investment friendly policies," he adds.
Talking about his growing up in Philadelphia — and being "passionate about the Phillies and Eagles" — Summers credits a rigorous education at MIT with teaching him what it takes to work in government.
"I've been incredibly lucky and I've lived in America, and in that sense I've lived the American Dream," he says. "I grew up in a wonderful household and family. I hardly would call myself a rags to riches story . . . But I feel incredibly lucky . . . And it makes me want to give something back to the country."
He also shares his advice to "anyone:" "There are no final victories in life, and there's no final defeats."
