'Car Coach': Privacy Battle Looms Over Black-Box Crash Data

Lauren Fix, the "Car Coach" blogger and automotive industry watcher, told "MidPoint" host Ed Berliner on Newsmax TV on Wednesday that U.S. law, effective Sept. 1, requires data-recording black boxes inside all new cars sold in the United States — but doesn't say who owns the data, which includes speed, location, and whether seat belts are in use during a crash.

"Right now it's open to everyone," Fix said.
