Larry Klayman to Newsmax TV: McGahn May Be Leaving Because of Mueller Interview

Larry Klayman, the founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch, told Newsmax TV on Wednesday that White House counsel Don McGahn could be leaving because of the interview he gave to special counsel Robert Mueller's team.

"I wonder whether there was an impasse at the White House where he was maybe let go," Klayman, a former prosecutor with the U.S. Justice Department, told Wednesday's "America Talks Live."

He added, while it is "probably the case" McGahn is leaving for a more lucrative position elsewhere, he questioned why the administration chose to announce it at this time.

"Why, during this period with Mueller and everything else," Klayman said. "I think the president may be upset that [McGahn] met with Mueller, and he may have disclosed information that he should not have disclosed to Mueller, which is going to prolong this witch hunt. That's just my guess."

Klayman added, current White House counsel to the president, Emmet Flood "seems to be pretty good in terms of an internal counsel to the White House," but saying "what the president does need are better outside lawyers, as I've said over and over again.

"And if the president gets subpoenaed, as Alan Dershowitz is predicting will be done soon, I think that may be good, because it'll give the president an opportunity to challenge the legitimacy of Mueller's investigation."
