Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen, in an interview with Newsmax, said conservative voices are being censored by Big Tech.
Knudsen, a Republican, made his remarks on Thursday's "National Report."
"I absolutely don't believe Republicans are getting a fair shake," he said. "Big Tech censorship is a thing. We know this is a thing. This isn't even a question. When you've got organizations like DirecTV taking you guys off the air ..."
DirecTV customers call toll free at 877-763-9762 to cancel/complain.
He also named YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook for stifling conservatives.
"Go down the list," he said. "That's why you're seeing Republican attorneys general, like me and a lot of my colleagues, launching investigations and filing lawsuits against a lot of the Big Tech companies and these social media companies.
"We now know, especially since Elon Musk has taken over Twitter, we've got the smoking gun. And we know that they suppress conservatives and conservative thought and conservative commentary. This is just not acceptable ..."
DirecTV has claimed both Newsmax and OAN were removed as "cost-cutting" measures at the same time the company reported profits last year of $2.7 billion.
This week DirecTV claimed Newsmax was demanding "excessive fees" that would cost them in the "tens of millions" of dollars.
Newsmax has denied these claims, saying it was seeking a fee of about $1 per cable subscriber per year, among the lowest fees asked for in cable, and that total amount of the deal was a fraction of "tens of millions."
"This was never about the fees being excessive," Chris Ruddy, CEO of Newsmax, said. "DirecTV's position has always been that Newsmax of all cable news channels should never get any cable fee whatsoever, not one penny. "
DirecTV continues to carry 22 left-leaning news channels, many with much lower ratings than Newsmax. And those channels get license fees.
Meanwhile, Knudsen, in his interview with Newsmax, said he is working with other Republican attorney generals in demanding President Joe Biden designate Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations.
"Hopefully, what that means is the federal government can step up and actually do something," he said. "Maybe we can even use military resources, possibly to help stem the flow of illegal drugs that are just coming in across that border."
