Ret. NYPD Capt.: 117 Uniformed Cops Died Last Year, Focus on Them

By    |   Wednesday, 13 May 2015 06:14 PM

This week is National Police Week and Americans should take the time to remember the sacrifices the nation's law enforcers make every single day, retired NYPD Police Capt. Joseph Concannon says.

It's a time of the year where we get one week to really look back and reflect on what's been going on around the nation with law enforcement," Concannon said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"One hundred and seventeen uniformed police officers died in the line of duty last year. That's something really to think about and take in. It takes the breath of some people away."

Concannon — who served as deputy director of public safety for New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and is now president of Integris Security LLC — has called for a boycott of the city of Baltimore.

He is incensed at the way city officials reacted to the riots, which he believes allowed rioters to destroy the city, putting residents and business owners in harm's way.

"It's a shame what's happening in Baltimore, what happened in Baltimore over the last couple of weeks," Concannon said.

"It's been a national disgrace and, just as an aside, to have a Baltimore Orioles game and no one in the stands [because of a curfew], that's a national embarrassment for our pastime."

On Wednesday night, The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is staging a national candlelight vigil.

"It really gives a chance to think about the sacrifices that police officers do each and every day," he said.
