Former SEAL Jonathan Gilliam: US Must Declare War on Terror Groups

Newsmax TV's "The Steve Malzberg Show"

By    |   Monday, 13 June 2016 09:27 PM EDT

A former Navy SEAL and FBI agent told Newsmax TV Monday night the next step in the war on terrorism is for the United States to actually declare war on terror groups.

"The next time you talk to Congressman [Pete] King you got to ask him this: why can't we declare war on these different Islamic groups that have declared war on us? Why can't we do that? And then if we do that, can we detain people that are sympathetic or supporting these individuals while they're investigated?" Jonathan T. Gilliam said to Steve Malzberg.

"Because right now what happens is, and this is repeated in all these different places, Boston bombers, Russia told us they were bad guys. We sent people to interview them and we bring them back. San Bernardino, we come here and this guy had two investigations … If we declare war, we can detain those people if they are sympathetic to the enemy."

Gilliam, president of U.S. Continued Service and host of "The Experts," also said he thought presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was spot-on during his Monday speech about national security in the wake of the Orlando attack that killed 49 people.

"I think his speech that he gave today was a home run," Gilliam said. "I think today Trump showed that he has the ability to win the general election, not just the Republican Party."
