The Roman Catholic Church has stepped up to help Christians being persecuted in the Middle East, Johnnie Moore, author of "Defying ISIS: Preserving Christianity in the Place of Its Birth and in Your Own Backyard," tells Newsmax TV.

"In my opinion, Pope Francis is one of the few people that's actually called it a genocide because it is a genocide," Moore said Monday to J.D. Hayworth on "Newsmax Prime."

"One of the first things the United States of America needs to do, is we need to declare this a genocide. The United Nations needs to declare this a genocide.

"But the reason why we won't declare it a genocide is because if we do, there are automatic mechanisms that go in place that force the United States of America to act."

Moore said the policy of the Obama administration — one of which the Republicans and Democrats are complicit — to "let this region fix itself."

And because of that policy, "we have ISIS."

Moore's book is published by Thomas Nelson.
