Pollster Zogby: Trump's Fraud Allegations Could Spark Riots

Donald Trump's nonstop braying about the election being rigged is not only dangerous, it won't help him win votes and could even provoke "rioting in the streets," veteran pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax TV.

"[This talk] doesn't move the polls at all. What it does is it revs up the base but it's very dangerous. We live in a democracy and essentially you have to have winners and losers and losers have to step back," Zogby said Tuesday on "America Talks Live."

"If Donald Trump is revving up his base, my fear is that should he lose, this base becomes uncontrollable on his part and it's just not a good sign. We do need governance whether we like it or not."

Asked by host Steve Malzberg what he meant by "uncontrollable," Zogby, a Newsmax contributor and senior partner at John Zogby Strategies, said: "I mean rioting in the streets. I mean a lack of acceptance."

Zogby said Trump's rhetoric is different from when George W. Bush was called an illegitimate president following a close, contested race against Democrat Al Gore — because Gore wasn't making the claims himself.

"That's the important thing … It wasn't coming from [Gore]. And that's the problem, a presidential candidate has got to concede."

Zogby said he doesn't believe Hillary Clinton has "closed the deal" on victory yet, but is "very close" to doing so.

"Donald Trump has sown his own fate to a large degree," Zogby he told Malzberg.

Trump has continued his claims of rigged voting despite calls from fellow Republicans to stop. On Tuesday, President Barack Obama called the intensifying, pre-emptive warnings about voter fraud "unprecedented" in modern politics and told Trump to "stop whining."

Zogby, director of the Keenan Center for Entrepreneurship, is author of "We Are Many, We Are One: Neo-Tribes and Tribal Analytics in 21st Century America," published by Paramount Market Publishing.
