John Mica: GOP Congress Ready to 'Rein In' Obama

By    |   Wednesday, 14 Jan 2015 10:37 AM

The new Republican-controlled Congress is poised and equipped to take aim at the unconstitutional actions executed by President Barack Obama during his six years in office, Rep. John Mica of Florida said Wednesday on "America’s Forum" on Newsmax TV.

"I've never seen an effort like this, it's coordinated, to try to stop every one of the executive actions he's taken," said Mica, who sits on the House Committee on Oversight and Government.

He said Republicans have come together with a plethora of ideas "to try to make certain that we cover as many of the corners that we can where the president has taken what we consider unconstitutional action."

"[Obama] said he'd do all this with the pen. He’s tried. We're going to do it by the Constitution. Pass the law and rein in what he has done.

"Then we're going to, under the Constitution also, appropriate funds for Homeland Security that we have our border protection, then straighten out some of the garbage you've seen with the TSA in different directions and make sure the country is protected and we use it for enforcement and homeland security properly."

Rather than appropriate money to help further the executive amnesty orders granted late last year by the president for millions of people in the country illegally, Mica said the 114th Congress proposes spending that money on more border security, customs agents and better aviation security.

"It's a step in the right direction," he said.

TSA is also in Congress’ crosshairs, according to Mica, who said there is a proposal to put more money into private screening under federal supervision as opposed to the current setup of 60,500 TSA employees.

"We have 15,000 administrators," he said. "What we need to do is concentrate on people who pose a risk, get TSA out of the screening business, get it into the security business.

"We know who these people are, we have trouble tracking and we spend money on bureaucracy and not on good national security."

Legislators are also looking to change the prosecutorial discretion Obama has assumed with his execution action on immigration, including penalties.

"Right now it's a $3,000 incentive to hire an illegal because of the terms of the Affordable Care Act and executive action," Mica said. "That's unfair when you've got Americans who are looking for jobs, that a preference is actually given to employers to hire an illegal.

"Just so many aspects of this, we've covered, we've tried to block the loopholes that he's been working from."
