John Gizzi: Bannon 'Saw the Exit Sign'

Newsmax TV's "The Brett Winterble Show"

Newsmax Washington correspondent John Gizzi, who first questioned whether Steve Bannon's days were numbered in the Trump White House, told Newsmax TV Friday that the chief strategist "saw the exit sign and was pushed out."

"It means that somebody who was a very iconic, classic figure — extremely popular with the non-interventionist wing of the Republican Party, as well as with grassroots, conservative activists — is now gone," Gizzi told "The Brett Winterble Show" in an interview.

"They considered Steve Bannon their voice within the administration."

Gizzi said Bannon's departure because "who will speak up for the non-interventionist wing? Who will take up the voice of the grassroots?

"Right now, the early whisperers are what's left resembles a Bush administration," he said.

Further, Bannon's ouster Friday firmly places White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and national security adviser H.R. McMaster "in a more commanding position," he told Winterble.

"There are no dissidents, no one guiding the administration," Gizzi added, "as an abscessed tooth does to the tongue."

"Scaramucci isn't coming and Bannon is gone."

Trump fired Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director on July 31.

"The question is what that agenda will be and whether they're able to put behind some of the events, tumultuous events from the last week," Gizzi said, "and focus on tax reform and just maybe a new agenda on healthcare.

"We'll find out when the president returns."

Trump is due back at the White House next week after several repairs and upgrades are completed.
