Rep. John Culberson told Newsmax TV on Friday that relief efforts around Hurricane Harvey have proven to be "a tremendous example of the self-reliance and resilience of the human spirit."

"Right now, we're in survival mode," the Texas Republican, whose district includes Houston, told "The Howie Carr Show" in an interview. "We're going to need the federal government's help.

"But there's good to come out of this because it shows the goodness of the human heart and the strength and character of Americans."

A member of the House Appropriations Committee, Culberson assured Carr that emergency funding legislation would be pass quickly after Congress returns to work next week.

"We're going to pass an emergency appropriations bill next week very quickly to make sure that we get relief to these good people down here who have suffered so much in this terrible hurricane."
