The government should consider sending the Army into Mexico to help stop the flow of illegal immigration into both countries, former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio told Newsmax TV.
Arpaio was on Wednesday's "America Talks Live" and discussed the caravan of Central American migrants that's making its way through Mexico en route to the United States.
The retired 86-year-old sheriff said he supports President Donald Trump's plan to house the migrants in tents near the U.S. border once they arrive here as they wait for their asylum cases to be heard.
Using tents "is a great idea. Sending the military to the border, I put out three months ago that we should send the Army into Mexico and work with the Mexican authorities," Arpaio said.

"I was a regional director [with the DEA] in Mexico in the '70s, I used the U.S. Army in Mexico. Why don't we do it now? Work with them to stop all these people coming into Mexico and especially stop them coming into our country."
Thousands of people have been walking and, when they can, hitching rides through Central America and Mexico for nearly two weeks. Their goal is to arrive at the U.S. border and attempt to gain entry.
Trump is sending thousands of active duty military members to the border to keep the migrants from illegally crossing.
