Ohio Rep. Jordan: 'Nothing Surprises You' With Obama WH

By    |   Friday, 27 February 2015 10:29 AM

With less than 24 hours to go until the Department of Homeland Security is shuttered unless a funding bill is passed, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said Friday on "America’s Forum" that the American people are counting on House Republicans to stand firm in refusing to fund President Barack Obama’s executive orders on de facto amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"We think it's important to stand up for the position we told the American people we were for, the position they elected us to fight for and the position we know is the fair position," Jordan told the Newsmax TV program.

"The 5 million people that are involved in the president's decision, unconstitutional amnesty decision, they can go back three years and get tax refunds and they can get Social Security numbers. How is it fair to taxpayers and older Americans? The potential for illegal noncitizens to participate in our election process is [also] very big.

"All those reasons show why it's unfair as well as being, in our judgment, unconstitutional."

Jordan noted that the House has agreed to fund the DHS at the level Democrats are seeking with one exception: no money for "unconstitutional" executive amnesty.

"We think it's important to remember we took an oath to uphold the Constitution. People know what the president did in November was unconstitutional, a federal judge has ruled it's unlawful, let's keep that language in there to protect that and let's fund the DHS and they still say no," he said.

The president’s sweeping amnesty order — combined with the White House’s stonewalling of investigations into both the Benghazi attack and former IRS official Lois Lerner’s "lost" and then found emails, concerning the targeting of conservative groups — is illustrative of this administration’s standard operating procedure, Jordan said.

"This is the sad, sad state of affairs today in our great country ... with this administration you almost wake up every day and nothing surprises you," he said.

"The fact that you can’t get the State Department to give you information regarding the deaths of four Americans, information you requested a year and a half ago. The fact that the IRS was actually targeting people for exercising their most fundamental rights, their rights to speak in a political nature, speak against … their government and they were harassed and targeted for doing so. It’s a direct violation of our most fundamental and cherished liberties, our First Amendment free speech rights.

"The fact that we now know the president, just on his own, said to 5 million illegal noncitizens, here you go and by the way, here are the benefits we’re going to confer on you and the potential for them to get tax refunds," Jordan said.

"So every single day you wake up and it’s something else. And that’s what’s so frustrating and not just frustrating obviously to us, but frustrating to every single American, what they see happening in their government."
