Rep. Crank to Newsmax: Colorado Dems' Deportation Reversal 'Incredible'

By    |   Sunday, 02 February 2025 11:38 AM EST

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and Democrats who put sanctuary policies in place in the state are now walking them back, which is "incredible," Rep. Jeff Crank told Newsmax.

"You know, in 2023, Gov. Jared Polis put out on Twitter at the time that he was thankful that the Biden administration gave temporary status to Venezuelan refugees, as he called them in 2024, in the city of Denver," the Colorado Republican said on Newsmax's "Sunday Report."

"Just last year, the city of Denver did a newcomer handbook trying to explain to other cities in America how they could also become a sanctuary city. In that document, they said that they had welcomed 42,000 people, illegal immigrants to our country. They don't call them illegal immigrants. They call them newcomers."

In Colorado, state GOP lawmakers introduced a bill that in part required local governments to cooperate with immigration agents or face losing state grant money, reported Axios.

Polis does not approve of the bill, but he still is calling on Immigration and Customs Enforcement to deport more immigrants from Colorado who are convicted of crimes.

"The citizens of Colorado are excited to see what the Trump administration has done," Crank told Newsmax. "Crime has increased in Colorado over the last several years, and they're excited to see the government doing what they're supposed to do, which is to get these killers and these thugs out of our community."

One of the immigrants arrested in crackdowns in New York City last week was Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, 26, who is a suspected member of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua and who was wanted on charges out of Aurora, Colorado.

"President Trump said that he's going to follow these people. He's going to catch them. He knows where they are," said Crank.

He added that he wouldn't say that the plan to capture and deport criminal immigrants is being carried out "flawlessly" but its speed and effectiveness is "kind of stunning" to Americans and to the migrants.

"This is what the American people asked us to do as leaders and I am very excited to see the president fulfilling his campaign promise," Crank said. "It is what the American people want."
