Lord: Kushner Uproar Would Vanish If He Was a Kennedy

The uproar over Jared Kushner's alleged conflicts of interest as senior adviser to his father-in-law President Donald Trump would not raise an eyebrow if he was a member of the storied Kennedy dynasty, conservative political strategist Jeffrey Lord told Newsmax TV on Monday.

"If Jared Kushner were named Kennedy, I don't think he would be having a problem," Lord, who worked as an associate political director under President Ronald Reagan, told host Miranda Khan on Monday's "America Talks Live."

"If you'll recall . . . Joseph P. Kennedy III, 37 years old, exactly the same age as Jared Kushner, with a mere two-and-a-half terms in the House of Representatives, gave the opposition speech to President Trump's State of the Union address, and was immediately touted as a presidential prospect in 2020.

"I am suggesting to you that when you look at his own grandfather, Robert Kennedy, who was appointed attorney general of the United States at 35, with no experience other than being a Senate lawyer . . . I think political philosophy has a lot to do with this."

Kushner's security clearance was recently downgraded top secret to secret because of concerns raised in an investigation into his background.

And last Wednesday, The New York Times reported the real estate empire owned by Kushner's family, received more than $500 million in loans last year after executives from the lending companies met with him at the White House.

But Lord says a young liberal would not be burdened with such problems.

"If you're a liberal, you're 37 and you don't have a lot of experience, they say to you you're just terrific and maybe should be president to boot," Lord said, referring again to Joseph P. Kennedy III.

"If you're Jared Kushner and you're Donald Trump's son-in-law . . . well, then you're suddenly not very experienced. I do think there's a game afoot here with that."

Lord, a contributing editor to The American Spectator is the author of "What America Needs: The Case for Trump," published by Regnery.
