J.D. Gordon: 'Pulse' Super Weapon is Future of Warfare

By    |   Wednesday, 27 May 2015 08:36 PM

The Air Force's new weapon that wipes out enemy electronics from miles away is the future of warfare and will help cut casualty rates even further, former Defense Department spokesman J.D. Gordon tells Newsmax TV.

"That's why it's so important that we fund these type of projects and that our industries are strong so they can produce these type of weapons," Gordon said Wednesday on "Hard Line." "We know the Russians and Chinese are trying to hack into us."

The United States is leading with the EMP missile that can fly over and take out an enemy's computer systems, he said, "but an EMP weapon in general, which could be a nuclear blast above our skies, is something that the Russians possess that capability. So do the Chinese and the North Koreans. Unfortunately, most likely the Iranians will in a short amount of time."

Currently, a wave of Navy Tomahawk missiles are launched from sea to take out radar and anti-aircraft weapons, clearing the way for jets to fly in unimpeded. The new microwave weapon on missiles would perform the same function without actually blowing anything up.

"That's the beauty of it: There's very little collateral damage," Gordon said. "It's the battle of ideas today, so if you have any civilian casualties, that's a red flag, and that hurts the ability of a country to wage war."

Gordon said he expects technology to quickly advance the way war is waged.

"There's the Navy's X-47B," he said. "It's like a small fighter jet unmanned, and it's already taken off and landed on an aircraft carrier and also just last month it was able to do an aerial refueling. … Also, the Navy's railgun and the Army has a version as well. .... Those don't need gunpowder or a type of propellant because they're launched with a magnetic field."
