Tax Attorney: Lack of Oversight Lets IRS Agents Abuse Power

By    |   Thursday, 11 June 2015 06:39 PM

IRS agents are able to abuse taxpayers because there is "not enough oversight," a criminal tax attorney tells Newsmax TV.

"You've got a bunch of people that a lot of them used to get picked on in high school, they probably had some psychological problems. They couldn't get to be real FBI agents or real police officers, so they probably couldn't even get their CPA license, so they became more powerful when they got a gun and worked with a special agency of the IRS, and there's not enough oversight," criminal tax attorney Michael Minns told Ed Berliner on "MidPoint" on Newsmax TV Thursday.

IRS agents have reportedly abused their power recently in incidents such as when agents showed up at two Knoxville, Tennessee, area businesses with unspecified search warrants with the help of the local police, a local NBC affiliate reported.

"It's ridiculous to have an armed invasion of someone's home with a SWAT team to obtain papers that they can get any way through the bank and usually voluntarily," Minns explained.

"If you happen to be one of the 3,500 people that gets hit, that gets put on the IRS hit-list this year, you're not going to be happy," he said.
