Rep. Jody Hice to Newsmax TV: Biden Slow in Helping Storm-Battered Texas

By    |   Monday, 22 February 2021 06:32 PM EST

President Joe Biden dragged his feet to help Texas cope with a crippling severe winter storm, according to Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., on Newsmax TV.

Biden engaged the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Friday, days after millions of Texans went without electricity, heat, and access to food and water. What if former President Donald Trump had waited to respond?

"It would be a third impeachment investigation already under way," Hice told host Chris Salcedo on "The Chris Salcedo Show" on Monday. "This is absolutely inexcusable that President Biden waited so long to even entertain the thought of getting involved and helping at least three days after Texas Gov. [Greg] Abbott[, R] requested help.

"Joe Biden just waited and waited and waited and finally, I believe it was on Saturday after most of the power was already restored in Texas that he finally does something. This is inexcusable, and something no president should have lagged behind."

Biden approved a major disaster declaration for Texas as the state struggled with the fallout from a winter storm. The action made federal funding available to affected individuals, including assistance for temporary housing and home repairs and low-cost loans.

Hice cited "some 70 deaths, most of them in Texas," and more than 4 million people without power due to the storms. He also said Biden's delay in responding reinforced the notion the president was not a friend of energy.

"Why was there not more action, and there is also no doubt President Biden has gone after the energy sector," Hice said. "Immediately, his first week, he shuts down Keystone Pipeline.

"He has gone after energy be it coal, nuclear, or natural gas. And those are the very things that were desperately needed in Texas at the time when renewable sources simply were not adequate enough to carry the load."
