Dan Bongino: Weinstein Case a 'Disgrace'

(Newsmax TV's "The Howie Carr Show")

The Harvey Weinstein sex harassment case is a "disgrace" that illustrates the "moral vacuum" in Washington and Hollywood that turned a blind eye to the misbehavior of the Democratic megadonor, former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino said Thursday.

In an interview on "The Howie Carr Show" on Thursday, the former New York City police officer and author of "Protecting the President" said even former President Barack Obama "had to know given the pervasive nature of the rumors about Weinstein" that it was "a bad idea" to allow daughter Malia to work as an intern for Weinstein's company.

"I disagreed with the man's politics, but he was always a very good father from what I saw," Bongino said. "I don't think he would put his daughter in danger deliberately. But this was unquestionably an atrocious decision, and I have no doubt that somebody knew and just said 'oh well, don't worry — he'll leave our kid alone' or whatever."

He also decried New York prosecutors for not bringing a case against Weinstein after a woman, wearing a wire, got him on tape allegedly admitting inappropriate sexual contact.

"This case is a disgrace, but really I mean this just goes to show the moral vacuum," he said.

"That's what this cabal of liberalism, liberal politics, liberal Hollywood in this moral, subjective vacuum they live in where objective values don't exist that that's what you get," he added.

"I guarantee you nobody saw anything wrong with this until they got caught. If this was someone in your family you'd knock someone out. But no, because it was Harvey Weinstein, they were like 'well, didn't he just write us a check? What's the problem? He wrote us a check. Let's just make it go away.'"

Politicians issued statements against Weinstein after "the story reaches critical mass."

"They hope it blows over and what it doesn't they do a strict political conciliation," he said. "They're like 'oh don't worry about it, maybe we don't have to give any money back. Oh now we better say something. We're going to lose some approval rating . . ."
