The federal probes into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia to meddle in the 2016 presidential election are needless distractions for the nation being fueled by the left, Grover Norquist, founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform, told Newsmax TV.
And by doing so, liberals could open up a Pandora's box of past financial links between the United States and Russia and former Soviet Union, Norquist told host Bill Tucker on Thursday's "America Talks Live."
"This is up there with Obama wasn't born in the United States and Monica Lewinsky . . . shiny things that distract some in the press and some citizens. But don't stop the government from moving forward," Norquist told host Bill Tucker.

"The left has completely made a mistake, and they're following the fantasy of Russian stuff and opening a Pandora's box. If we're going to look at Russian influence in American politics, do we really want to look — do they want to look at the Clinton Foundation?
"Do they want to look at the last 70 years of the Soviet Union funding the American Communist Party, which liberals are supposed to tell you didn't happen, or you're not allowed to talk about? They were getting cash."
Norquist said there are "Americans alive today" who were receiving cash "from Moscow, from the Soviet Union to involve themselves in American electoral politics."
"I'd love to look at that," Norquist told Tucker. "I'm not sure the left has thought that through."
