Giuliani to Newsmax TV: Mayors de Blasio, Frey Are 'Idiots' Letting Protesters to Run Wild

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are Democratic "idiots" for allowing the protesters to trash those cities, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani told Newsmax TV.

"These progressive Democratic idiots — because they have idiots philosophy, totally unrealistic philosophy of life — they really can't govern because they're so unrealistic," Giuliani told Monday's "Greg Kelly Reports." "De Blasio gave up a bridge. That means they're going to want another bridge. They're going to want to burn buildings. They're going to want to burn cars as they've been doing. They've already beaten up about 60 or 70 police officers. They've beaten up about 100 other people."

Giuliani complained about Frey allowing protesters to burn down a police station in Minneapolis. He said giving in to the demands of protesters will just embolden them to commit more violent acts.

Similarly, Giuliani said de Blasio relenting to the violent wills of protesters in New York will only bring my violence to the city.

"The worst part of it is the police department hasn't responded because ... the mayor is prohibiting them from doing it," Giuliani said. "I went out to Brooklyn near the Barclays Center ... and I talked to some of the police officers, some of the young men, and they told me how frustrated they were. One of them said to me, 'We're being paid to be punching bags.'"

On Monday morning, Giuliani tweeted out his frustration with how de Blasio has handled the riots in New York City. He pointed to his own style of governance in a similar situation when he was mayor as a model of how to maintain order.

"These riots can be prevented," Giuliani tweeted on Monday morning. "I did it with massive protests of police brutality kept lawful. I did it following two major riots under my predecessor; a pogrom in Crown Heights and a riot in Washington Heights. A riot was impossible when I was mayor."

Guiliani served as New York City mayor from 1994 to 2001. In 1999, massive protests broke out after the death of Amadou Diallo, a 22-year-old immigrant from Guinea who was shot 19 times by four police officers while he was reaching for his wallet.

Throughout weeks of protests in front of the New York City police headquarters, roughly 1,200 people were arrested. Giuliani said he kept the protests "lawful" during that time.
