Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tells Newsmax TV that while he has been vetted as a possible 2016 Republican vice presidential candidate, the final decision is "up to Donald Trump."
"He's got to decide who makes him comfortable, who has the right chemistry — who does he want to work with for the next four years," Gingrich, 73, who was speaker from 1995 to 1999, told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth in an exclusive interview from Paris. "It's really entirely his decision.
"There are a number of very smart, competent people I think are being vetted as possible choices."
When Hayworth indirectly referenced an OpinionSavvy-Newsmax poll showing respondents favoring Gingrich as Trump's choice, the former Georgia congressman said, "This is his call.

"It's going to be based on his decision about who could be president. It's going to be based on his decision about who the chemistry is right with.
"If you’re going to work with a guy for four years, you ought to take some time to think about it.
"We're old friends," Gingrich said, "but I deeply respect the fact that this is going to be up to Donald Trump — and he's got to decide who he wants to have his vice presidential running mate."
