Rep. Fred Keller, R-Pa., expressed concern about the incoming Biden administration's plans to derail construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, predicting on Newsmax TV on Wednesday the move will cause an increase in energy costs across the United States.
Keller, 55, who represents Pennsylvania's 12th Congressional District in North Central Pennsylvania, which is part of the Allegheny Plateau and its rich resources of natural gas, coal and petroleum, told "American Agenda" he will not retreat from his promotion of the energy industry and the consumer.
"It's unfortunate that we might see more expensive energy through this, and, so on it concerning PA-12, I do want to wish . . . when see you this happen in America – it doesn't happen anywhere else in the world where you have a peaceful transition of power from one administration to the other – we wish the administration well, because when they do well Americans do well," Keller said.
"But, we also should make sure we represent the people that sent us to Washington, D.C. And in doing so; I'm going to advocate that we have energy abundance in America."
In one of his first actions Wednesday, President Joe Biden signed an executive order to revoke a permit for part of the pipeline, likely killing the $8 billion project of which 300 miles had been completed to transport oil sands crude from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. Biden had stated his intention to stop the pipeline to please environmental activists who insist the move will reduce anthropogenic global warming.
While offering an olive branch to the new administration, he also characterized a split Senate and a near evenly divided House as a sign the American public was not looking for dramatic change.
"I think that sends a message to the new administration that we want to make sure that everybody's voice is heard, that the policy agenda will continue to promote American products, American supply chains," Keller said. "We learned that from this pandemic. Let's support jobs here at home. Let's makes sure we have energy independence. Let's stand up for our allies.
"I think it's been shown that we're not ready for a dramatic shift away from all those things that built the greatest economy in the world."
