Wash. Examiner's Ferrechio: Exec. Order Would Hurt Dems'

By    |   Tuesday, 09 September 2014 07:06 PM EDT

President Barack Obama's delay of an executive order granting amnesty to illegal immigrants is no surprise, says Susan Ferrechio, chief congressional correspondent for The Washington Examiner.

That's because Democrats are scared such a move would blow their chances in the midterm elections, she said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I would've been surprised if he went ahead with it. It would've seemed like a kamikaze move, frankly," Ferrechio said.

"If you look at these Senate races, some of these races are close and Democrats have the edge."

She said Americans believe the executive order would hurt their chances of getting a job because it allow more illegal immigrants to get work. "That could've really hurt Democrats even more, that could've been the nail in the coffin. Democrats were telling [Obama] 'Hold off, what's a few months?' and that's what the president did. No surprise at all," Ferrechio said.

"Politics tend to rule the day around Congress in the White House and we're just very close to an election."
