There are many feminist-based myths about women that are presented in the media as fact, but are completely wrong, says Christina Hoff Sommers, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
"Much of the information we get on women is simply untrustworthy. They think it's reliable, it's not," Sommers said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV.

A case in point is the "fact" that one in five college coeds will be assaulted, according to Sommers, author of
"Who Stole Feminism?: How Women Have Betrayed Women" and
"The War Against Boys: How Misguided Policies are Harming Our Young Men," both published by Simon & Schuster.
"The president, the vice president, politicians on both sides, Republicans and Democrats put it forward, everyone is using it but very few are checking the facts," she said.
"Fortunately, USA Today ran a very good op-ed by two leading criminologists who pointed out that it's based on a study of violence on campuses. It was carried out at two universities. Very, very few questions, very low response rate.
"They counted a girl as a victim of sexual assault if, for example, if she suffered like what they call an attempted forced kiss … as well as all sex under the influence of alcohol. So you can get an epidemic if you're willing to enlarge the meaning of the term to encompass a lot of activities that most of us don't think of as rape."
