Ed Rollins: Obama Has 'Failed Miserably on Many, Many Fronts'

Thursday, 03 July 2014 06:46 PM

Nobody should be shocked by the abysmal failure of President Barack Obama's two terms in office, according to veteran GOP campaign consultant Ed Rollins.

"He's failed miserably on many, many fronts and he was probably the least experienced man to be president at the time he came into office,'' Rollins told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV Thursday.

"We had an economic crisis in which he knew very little about economics. He knew nothing about military affairs and … inherited two wars, and he knew very little about how to deal with the Congress even though he'd been a senator.

"So my sense is his failure should not shock us but at the end of the day when the country turns on a president as this one has, it's awful, awful hard to do anything effective.''

Rollins, former national campaign director for the Reagan-Bush '84 campaign, made his comments in response to the Quinnipiac University poll that found Americans think Obama is the worst president since WWII.

"The likelihood is he's going to lose the Senate or his party's going to lose Senate seats. And then you've got two years without an agenda with chaos in the world, economic crisis, and can you really say anything in this country is better than it was when he took office?'' Rollins said.

He was not surprised at the poll's finding that Ronald Reagan was the most admired president.

"Reagan came into office with three premises of things he wanted to do … rebuild the defenses of the country … stimulate the economy by reducing taxes, which he was very effective. And get government off the backs of small business,'' Rollins said.

"Any one of those would have been a major accomplishment. He covered all three.''

Rollins believes that it is only a matter of time before the House committee probing the IRS tea party-targeting scandal will uncover some smoking-gun evidence involving the supposedly lost emails of former IRS official Lois Lerner and other agency employees.

"They’re going to find a smoking gun, emails just don’t disappear anymore. It's not like the old days where you get documents you could burn them or throw them in the garbage or what have you," Rollins said.

"Everything is out there somewhere and the idea that on these particular things that they’re focusing on suddenly disappeared is just absurd … The American public has the right to demand that they get this thing straightened out and get the truth."

Rollins is roiled at the left's attempts to portray Republicans as wanting to take away the birth control rights of women following the Supreme Court's ruling on Hobby Lobby's objection to paying for abortion-inducing contraceptives.

"The rhetoric is always about how Republicans are trying to take away the rights of women…. Nothing to be further from the truth,'' he said.
