President Barack Obama is "setting up an informal shadow Cabinet to resist Donald Trump at every turn," journalist Edward Klein told Newsmax TV on Thursday.
"The subtext of that farewell address was: 'I'm not going anywhere. I'm still the head of the party. I'm going to organize a resistance to Donald Trump — and I want you all to follow me,'" Klein to host Steve Malzberg on "America Talks Live" in an interview.
"He's staying in Washington," Klein added. "This Chicago stuff was just a one-night stand. He's got a big mansion in Washington."
But this effort will not include Hillary Clinton.

"I think she's correct that — when has Barack Obama ever been a good field marshal?" Klein told Malzberg. "He couldn't even get his own Democratic Party re-elected.
"He's always been about himself — and he has never really been a guy who has been able to rally the troops because he doesn't care about that.
"But more importantly," he continued, "Donald Trump has said more than one time that maybe with Hillary we should let bygones be bygones — as far as the emails are concerned, the Clinton Foundation is concerned — and why would Hillary want to tee off Donald Trump when maybe he's going to give her a pass?"
Clinton also is not going to challenge New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, either.
"Being mayor of New York is cleaning the streets, making sure the garbage is picked up, snowplowing — and she'd have to live there," Klein said. "It's a nitty-gritty job and she's above all that."
Regarding reports on a dossier of unsubstantiated information on President-elect Donald Trump's dealings with Russia, the journalist and author likened it to when J. Edgar Hoover directed the FBI.
"In his own office, he had filing cabinets," Klein told Malzberg. "These were not filing cabinets somewhere in the FBI.
"They were in his office — and in those filing cabinets were these kinds of unsubstantiated investigations of various politicians, in case Hoover wanted to dip into the filing cabinets, call the politician and say, 'Hey, you don't really want me to leak this story about you and Mrs. so and so, do you?'
"In this case, Trump has said on more than one occasion some not nice things about the intelligence community — and this is the intelligence community pulling a 'J. Edgar Hoover' on him.
"They leaked it," Klein added, "and this only could have come from the intelligence community."
