Dick Morris to Newsmax TV: Biden on 'Wrong Side' of Revival

Joe Biden is on the "wrong side" of the political debate as America reopens its economy in all but the urban blue areas, according to political consultant Dick Morris on Newsmax TV.

"As this virus recedes around the country, it becomes increasingly a phenomenon of the metropolitan areas, particularly New York, also Houston, Detroit, and other places," Morris told Wednesday's "Spicer and Co." "Those are the Democratic Party base, and if Biden advocates reopening, he runs afoul of his base and he'll face severe criticism.

"Trump is appealing to those outside of those core metropolitan areas, who for the most part see no reason not to reopen.

"Those don't see why, because around them, they don't see this crisis."

It is age-old red state-blue state politics, and President Donald Trump is on the right side of the argument here as an "opener" vs. Biden, a "closer," Morris told host Sean Spicer.

"Politics in this country is so geographic, red states and blue states – that when you see a phenomenon that is concentrated in the blue states but affects the policy in all of the states, it really creates an opportunity for the Republicans to make hay," Morris added.

It is still too early to look at state-by-state polling, according to Morris, particularly as those battleground states like Michigan have a blue-voter city like Detroit that will stay closed and pay the price economically – and potentially cost Biden in the coronavirus reopening debate.

"There are four categories, as you know: Urban, suburban, town, and rural," Morris told Spicer of in-state political geography. "Town and rural are both heavily Republican, and suburbs on reopening, I think, tend more toward reopening – and you know the cities want to stay closed."

Republicans do not compete in the urban cities anyway, so there is a chance for the GOP to pick up voters in this November's election as long as the coronavirus pandemic continues to trend as it has been of late.

"Those divides are going to be huge, and I think they'll work to Trump's advantage," Morris concluded.

"As we reopen, the evidence so far shows there's no catastrophe coming, that the media predictions of doom and gloom are turning out to not be correct.

"So, when it becomes clear this was all a false alarm, and basically we can reopen with impunity, that Biden was wrong, he's on the wrong side of history."
