Draft Biden Group Runs Ad on CNN Ahead of Democrat Debate

A podium CNN reserved for Joe Biden at the first Democratic presidential candidates' debate wasn't needed – but a $250,000 ad kept the vice president's image in front of voters Tuesday night.

The group Draft Biden 2016 launched the ad on CNN the night of the debate, featuring portions of a 2012 Biden speech that focused on working families, along with images of the vice president's service in the Obama administration.

The ad was first reported by Vox.

In the speech to the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Biden talks about his father looking for work.

"For the rest of our lives — my sister and my brothers — for the rest of our life, my dad never failed to remind us that a job is about a lot more than a paycheck. It’s about your dignity," Biden says. "It’s about respect. It’s about your place in the community. It’s about being able to look your child in the eye and say, 'honey, it’s going to be okay,' and mean it and know it’s true."

As the audio plays, images of Biden and President Barack Obama are shown, followed by Biden meeting with union members, kitchen workers, and children.

"You never quit on America, and you deserve a president who will never quit on you!" Biden says at the end, as a shot of the vice president and his wife, Jill, are shown, and the words "Run, Joe" appear on the screen.

The new advertisement comes in the wake of a short-lived first attempt by the Draft Biden group; the ad was hastily pulled because of its emphasis on the deaths of Biden's first wife and two of his children.

A Draft Biden official tells Vox the new ad was scheduled to run on CNN both before the debate and again Wednesday.

Biden has not officially announced his decision on whether he'll run for president in 2016.
