President Donald Trump's decision to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem is "no longer going to be a sticking point" in the Middle East peace process, Republican strategist Bradley Blakeman told Newsmax TV on Wednesday.

"Our embassy is going to be in the capital of Israel, which is Jerusalem," Blakeman, who served in the Bush 43 White House, told Miranda Khan on "America Talks Live" in an interview.

"The president made clear in his announcement from the White House that doesn't mean that anything should change within the negotiation of the ultimate agreement with regard to a two-state solution or the administration of the city of Jerusalem.

"That's for the parties to determine," he added. "But as far as America is concerned, we recognize the capital of Israel to be Jerusalem — and that's where our embassy is going to be."

Trump's decision can jump-start the peace process, Blakeman added.

"America, by not doing what it said it was going to do in 1995, became part of the problem," he told Khan. "The world follows America's lead.

"We're the leader of the world — and if our embassy isn't there and our laws don't mean what they say — then it also is a bone of contention for many other countries, because nobody wants to be the first.

"So, America is the first — and that's exactly the type of leadership we should be showing to the world.

"This will be a new opportunity for both the Israelis and the Palestinians to get this off the table and to seriously return to the table and iron out their differences," Blakeman said. "Leave America out of it."
