Morris and Sorbo to Newsmax: We're 'Heartened' By the Thousands Who've Canceled DirecTV

(Newsmax/"The Chris Salcedo Show")

By    |   Thursday, 02 February 2023 07:26 PM EST

Political analyst Dick Morris and radio host and author Sam Sorbo told Newsmax on Thursday that they are "heartened" by and "support" people who are pulling the plug on AT&T's DirecTV for censoring Newsmax.

"I think censorship belongs in the classroom when teachers are teaching sex ed instead of math and infusing sex instruction with second graders, for instance – I think that's where censorship belongs," Sam Sorbo said during an appearance on Newsmax's "The Chris Salcedo Show." "Not on your DirecTV channels, your TV providers."

"I think it's a very hypocritical point of view to say, 'Oh, we're just not going to carry these people,' and I support people who dumped their DirecTV so that they can go find Newsmax elsewhere," she added.

As the fallout from DirecTV's decision to drop the 4th-highest rated cable news channel in the nation continues, Dick Morris said he has been buoyed by the reaction of Capitol Hill Republicans.

"I'm surprised and heartened that the whole Republican Party – from DeSantis to Trump to McCarthy to Scalise to Ted Cruz – the entire party has lashed out about this and said this is just an outrageous act of censorship and they won't permit it," he said. "You were reading off those comments from the people, but bear in mind that we have had over 10,000 people a day pull the plug on their service."

Sorbo said she's personally familiar with the concept of being canceled because Big Tech has largely censored her husband, actor Kevin Sorbo.

"Facebook took down my husband, by the way," she said. "If you want to reach out to Kevin Sorbo, go to SorboStudios.com. That's the only way you can find him these days, aside from his Twitter feed, because Facebook took him down … and so did LinkedIn. These platforms are busy censoring. This is not the American way, yet, although we are headed in that direction."

Morris remarked on how DirecTV's move "is an entirely new genre of censorship."

"Most censorship has historically been by government and that's why the Constitution says government shall not abridge the right of free speech," he said. "But this is contracted out. This is like the privatization of censorship, so the court has no jurisdiction, the House [of Representatives] has no jurisdiction, because it's all private.

"The only jurisdiction is between you and me, our wallets, and pocketbooks, and our telephone, and the only power we have is to pull the plug on them," the political author continued. "That's why I'm so heartened that over 100,000 people have disconnected from DirecTV and AT&T. They bit off more than they can chew when they took on Newsmax."

Actions to Take Now

1. DirecTV customers call toll free at 877-763-9762 to cancel/complain.

2. AT&T customers call toll free at 888-855-2338 to cancel/complain for U-verse, cellular and wireless services.

3. Call your congressman or senator at 202-224-3121 and demand they stop AT&T/DirecTV's censorship of NEWSMAX — ask them to give you a date on the hearings!
