Former Vice President Dick Cheney unequivocally told
Newsmax TV that "I will support the nominee of my party."
In an interview on "The Steve Malzberg Show," Cheney said that it was good that former Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Carly Fiorina now had a strong chance of making the top-tier Republican candidates' debate on Sept. 16.
CNN announced Tuesday that it had amended its criteria for the event, which could greatly benefit Fiorina.
"She's the only woman in the race on the Republican side, but she obviously has an impressive background," Cheney told Malzberg. "I'm glad to see she's in the race."

Cheney is the co-author of a new book,
"Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America," with his daughter, Liz Cheney, and published by Threshold Editions.
In sizing up the race, Cheney described it as "fascinating to look at."
"This is a remarkable year. When you think about the number of candidates we've got, when you see the changes under way — and Joe Biden may jump in on the Democratic side — there's a lot of activity there.
"Also, at the same time, there's a lot of dissatisfaction in the country with politics in general, with the state of the government — and you see that reflected in the polls," Cheney said. "And it may well be reflected in the public's preferences with respect to the Iowa caucuses."
