If budget talks stall to the point a government shutdown occurs Friday night, it is clear the Democrats will be to blame, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV.

During an appearance on "America Talks Live," DeLay told host Miranda Khan government shutdowns are not as bad as people think they are.

"When I was in the leadership, the government shut down for I don't know, maybe 19 times over a 10-year period, and you know what? The American people didn't miss it at all," DeLay said. "So this notion that shutting down the government is just horrible, horrible, is a false notion."

DeLay, the author of "Revival, Revolution, Rebirth!" said Americans would see Democrats' true colors if a shutdown happens.

"Let it shut down, and if it shuts down in this particular case, the Democrats are going to be blamed for it," he said. "What I would do in leadership in a Republican Congress is make those 10 Republicans that you need to pass the continuing resolution, vote on it every day until they vote for it, to show the American people that it's the Democrats that are obstructionists, it's the Democrats shutting down the government, and that the Republicans are trying to beef up the military and the Democrats don't want that either."
