Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, says Democrats are trying to push extreme immigration laws because they won’t have the House in 2022.

The White House on Thursday announced a sweeping immigration bill that would create an eight-year path to citizenship for millions of immigrants already in the country. The legislation would also provide a faster track for undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

“I think they’re trying to go as extreme as they possibly can to get as much as they possibly can in the next few months regardless of whether or not it makes sense, regardless of whether or not they’ve got any support on the right side of the aisle,” Van Duyne said Thursday during an appearance on Newsmax TV’s “John Bachman Now.”

“This whole pull for unity and we’re going to be talking and we’re going to be reaching out across the aisle – we haven’t seen it, at all. They’re going to try to push this through with a simple majority, not even bring any Republicans to discuss it, and I think that’s a problem,” she added.

Van Duyne said the Biden administration should focus on helping small businesses get back on track amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Texas has a lot of issues. We have our communities that have been flooded in some cases, gang activity, sex trafficking, drug cartel activity, and those are things we need to take seriously before we talk about not enforcing immigration laws, talk about opening our borders.

“We are trying to help struggling, working families right now, and then with this storm on top of it we’ve got some real issues, we’ve got a lot of work to do in front of us and trying to pander to the top left is not going to get it done.”
