Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump needs to "keep brining it back to his issues" in Tuesday's debate, regardless of whatever Harris or the questioners say, presidential historian Craig Shirley told Newsmax on Saturday.
"There's an old adage in politics that if they give you a question you don't like, give them an answer they can't use: He needs to bring the issue and bring the questions back to his core issues such as the economy, the border, and crime," Shirley told Saturday's "America Right Now."
Political analyst Mark Halperin joined the conversation and said he does not think Harris "will play it safe."
"I think people want to see she's got the strength to be commander in chief," Halperin said. "People want to see she's got the strength to be the steward of a good economy. So I think she'll pick her spots to be aggressive."
Harris will be coached to give the audience the sense that "Trump is flailing," Halperin concluded.
"She's got a very good debate prep team," he said. "She's been pretty strong in her previous debates as a candidate on the national stage. So the expectations game is always a little bit out of whack and a little bit artificial.
"But I don't have any reason to believe that this won't be a strong moment for her."
