The 75-year-old agnostic said he is going to be married to a woman "somewhat younger" than himself who is very spiritual.

Despite his agnosticism, Horowitz said, "I appreciate the power that faith has to console us from the defeats that characterize them.... Life itself is a defeat unless you have a strong belief in an afterlife and a divinity who will sort everything out when this life is done."

His fiancée wanted to spend money to make their home and grounds beautiful, but Horowitz wanted to save the money so she would have it after he died.

"When I tried to restrain her she said to me, 'You're going to be dead one day. I'm going to be dead. Let's enjoy this while we're here.'"
