O'Reilly: Dems Stalling on DACA to Score Political Points

Democrats will do anything to appease minorities and immigrant groups, even if that means holding up legislation to protect DACA recipients, Bill O'Reilly told Newsmax TV.

O'Reilly told "Newsmax Now" host John Bachman he is sure lawmakers on the left are purposefully putting immigration legislation on the backburner.

"I think the Democratic Party is gonna do anything it can to curry favor with minorities and immigrant groups," O'Reilly said. "And if that means that they have to derail legislation that would help a certain immigrant group, the DACA people, they'll do it."

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program allowed people who illegally came to the United States as children with their parents to stay under certain conditions. The Trump administration instituted a March 5 deadline for lawmakers to come up with permanent legislation that would protect DACA recipients from being deported.

Republicans want any immigration bill to include money for increases in border security, including a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

"I don't understand why any American would oppose the law," O'Reilly said. "I haven't heard one cogent argument. Not one, for not building a barrier between a country, Mexico, that has 35,000 homicides a year and is involved with massive amounts of drug smuggling into the USA. Who wouldn't want to protect Americans from that chaos down there?"

O'Reilly also addressed the gun control debate, which has taken off since a high school shooting in Florida resulted in 14 children and three adults being killed two weeks ago.

As a result of renewed calls for gun control and even the banning of high-powered long guns, Dick's Sporting Goods announced Wednesday it will stop selling semi-automatic rifles and will not sell any firearms to anyone under age 21.

O'Reilly said people who want to buy guns will "go someplace else. [Dick's is] taking a principle stand I guess, saying we see that there are some abuses in the area of semiautomatic weapons, so we're not gonna sell any of them. I don't feel strongly about it one way or the other.

"If Dick's Sporting Goods wants to make a statement, [it's] their right to do it. Consumers have other avenues to go to, and I know thousands of them will. So, I don't think there's really any controversy here."
