Roger Stone: Lewandowski Case is 'Detrimental, Off Message'

By    |   Monday, 18 Apr 2016 04:11 PM

The controversy surrounding Donald Trump's campaign manager over whether he roughhoused a reporter has hurt the Republican presidential front-runner, veteran GOP consultant and Trump supporter Roger Stone tells Newsmax TV.

"I think the entire discussion is detrimental, off message," Stone said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"This entire narrative, this entire affair is not helpful to Donald Trump because it distracts from his core messages about jobs and trade and immigration in our fiscal precarious situation."

Last week, prosecutors in Florida decided not to pursue a criminal case against Corey Lewandowski, who was charged by police with simple battery for allegedly grabbing Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields as she attempted to quiz Trump at one of his rallies.

Trump stood by Lewandowski, despite pressure from his opponents Ted Cruz and John Kasich as well as feminist and civil rights groups saying the campaign operative should be fired.

While Lewandowski claimed he never touched Fields, video of the incident appeared to show that he grabbed her arm.

"I have looked at these videos like every other American 100 times. To me, what happens is inconclusive. I'm not certain," Stone said.
