Pushing back at the "reactionary" calls for new gun laws, former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told Newsmax TV the only people who will be restricted by them are those who follow the law, not lawless murderers.
"When you make laws as a reactionary tool to horrific events, the people that follow the laws in the first place are the ones that are mostly impugned by those laws," Lewandowski told Thursday's "Newsmax Now."
Questioning just how much President Donald Trump will succumb to the political pressure on new gun legislation, Lewandowski said whatever proposals pass Congress, including enhanced background checks and red-flag laws, will have to be weighed in just how they will work to curb the scourge of gun violence in today's America.
"Gun ownership by legal gun owners are already following the rules, so I tend to call into question what additional laws are going to do to prevent bad people from doing horrific things," Lewandowski told host John Bachman.
An avowed supporter of the Second Amendment, Lewandowski is releasing a book this October, "Trump: America First," which details how the "president succeeds against all odds."
