Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and other mayors who are vowing to fight back against the deportation of immigrant criminals are "on the wrong side of this issue," and must face consequences for their actions, Chad Wolf, a former acting secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said on Newsmax Sunday.
"They're on the wrong side of history when it comes to protecting their citizens and protecting their community from dangerous illegal aliens," Wolf told Newsmax's "Sunday Agenda." "He is actually protecting criminal aliens in his community."
Johnson told reporters last week that no matter who is president, Chicago will continue to be a city that "opens its arms to people from around the globe."
"He is protecting criminal aliens in his community and of course, ICE, President Trump, Tom Homan, and others want to actually go into those communities, remove those dangerous individuals, and then deport them," Wolf said. "I think this administration, particularly the Department of Justice, needs to look carefully at elected officials if they're going to continue to, you know, again, try to get around federal law and obstruct law enforcement officers coming into their jurisdictions. I do think there needs to be some type of consequence."
Meanwhile, it's "clear" that the Biden administration didn't want to remove criminal immigrants from the United States, said Wolf.
"ICE has a sophisticated targeting system," he said. "They know where these criminal aliens are, and if you let them do their job, they can do it like we've seen over the last two weeks. The Biden administration had this same information. So for four years, they could have been running operations like we see over these last two but they decided not from a policy perspective."
