President Donald Trump ought to order the FBI to take a closer look at the allegations leveled at now Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh over reports that witnesses for the accuser were pressured to change their stories, Bill O'Reilly told Newsmax TV.

O'Reilly was on Monday's "The Wayne Allyn Root Show" and was asked whether the bureau should dig into what it found during its supplemental background investigation of Kavanaugh.

"President Trump has the power to order the FBI to look into what it found it in the last background check," O'Reilly said. "And what we know, Wayne, is that texts were sent from the Christine Ford camp to two witnesses to change their testimony.

"So, the FBI should investigate and find out, was this an organized thing? Why did it happen? They could easily do that, and if I were President Trump, I certainly would order that to happen."

Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault dating back to their high school years in the early 1980s. The allegations, which she put in a letter, surfaced in September shortly before a planned Senate Judiciary Committee vote on Kavanaugh's nomination.

The FBI checked out the story and, according to reports, did not find any evidence to back up the claim. Kavanaugh was confirmed and sworn in over the weekend.

O'Reilly doubts Ford will go to local police in Maryland, where she claimed the assault took place, and file a criminal report.

"No. 1, I don't believe Dr. Ford will file a criminal complaint because by doing that, you put yourself at risk if the complaint is not deemed credible," he said. "No. 2, I do believe she will get a book contract for mid-six figures, maybe four or five hundred thousand."
