Ex-Gingrich Adviser: Jindal Would Bring Fresh Ideas for '16

By    |   Thursday, 18 September 2014 05:19 PM EDT

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has yet to say he's running for president in 2016, but if he does, a former State Department official says that he stands out because he is both an experienced leader and he brings a lot of ideas.

"We are 20 years, one month short, from the Contract with America — the last time the GOP really came out of the gate with a strong, quiver full of ideas," Christian Whiton, told Ed Berliner on "MidPoint" on Newsmax TV Thursday.

"Jindal is trying to position himself as someone who can bring not just governing experience… but also a lot of new ideas, especially on energy and national security, which are in the news today," Whiton explained.

Whiton worked as senior adviser at the State Department under former President George W. Bush, and was a senior adviser to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, when he ran for president in 2012. He currently works at DC International Advisory, a geopolitical risk assessment firm.

"As we get into the campaign, and especially as you see governors step forward and people who have experience, Jindal is someone interesting because Louisiana is both a big oil state, energy state and gas state," he said." He's also close to the border."

"Since Jindal was a congressman before he was governor," Whiton added.

"He can cover other issues that governors have a tough time with like national security."
