O'Reilly: I May Be Back on TV Soon

Bill O'Reilly might return to the airwaves with a new TV show, he told Newsmax TV.

"I may come back to television, it just depends," O'Reilly told Newsmax TV's John Bachman on Thursday.

"We're living in a pretty vicious age now. Whoever I work for is going to have to have a lot of courage to stop the far left from attacking sponsors and spreading lies about people," said O'Reilly, who reigned for two decades as the king of cable news until his top-rated show, "The O'Reilly Factor," was axed by Fox News in April.

O'Reilly, who now hosts a Monday-Thursday podcast on BillOReilly.com, said his new venture has drawn "hundreds of thousands" of fans.

"I may come back to television, or I may continue on the 'net," he said. "We tweeted [Thursday] during the [former FBI Chief James] Comey hearings. Three million people were involved with the tweeting that I did on that. This is a very powerful medium, as is Newsmax."

O'Reilly said his tweets were "flat-out honest. [I'm] not trying to help Trump. Not trying to hurt Comey. Not trying to do any of that. It's straight. It's there. You can listen. It's fact-based, and you can agree or disagree."

O'Reilly's latest historical book is called "Bill O'Reilly's Legends and Lies: The Civil War," published by Henry Holt.

The book is the newest installment in The New York Times #1 bestselling companion series to the Fox historical docudrama, "Bill O'Reilly's Legends and Lies," on the deadliest war in American history. The book chronicles the birth of the Republican Party, the Confederacy's first convention, the Underground Railroad, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Battle of Gettysburg, and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.

"It's is the third in a series of 'Legends and Lies,' and we're in the middle of a civil war right now in America," O'Reilly told Newsmax TV.

"The real Civil War, which was the low point in American history, there's a lot of myths surrounding it, as you know. So, we take this book, and we walk through, and it's a beautiful book. It's got a lot of illustrations, Americans nine to 90 will enjoy it, and that's my goal: to make history fun.

"To make it come alive, and to have people absorb knowledge at the same time, become literate on why their country was so divided back in the 1860s. It's relevant today. We're a divided nation today."

Told by Bachman an online poll conducted by Newsmax revealed 90 percent of respondents want him back on cable news, O'Reilly said: "We'll see what happens, we'll see what happens, but I'm flattered that your audience wants me back, and I appreciate it very much."

He added he has been impressed with the "power of the internet. It is just amazing right now, and it's changing everything. The cable news stations are on the decline," O'Reilly said.

O'Reilly, 67, was forced out of Fox in April after The New York Times reported five women had received $13 million in payouts in exchange for not pursuing lawsuits or baring allegations of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior. O'Reilly has denied the charges.
