O'Reilly: Liberal Justices Trampling on Freedoms

By    |   Tuesday, 01 July 2014 08:30 AM

The Supreme Court’s decision in the Hobby Lobby case was a “big victory” for “traditional Americans,” according to Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, but the four dissenting liberal justices’ position -– both in the Hobby Lobby case and another involving unions -- signals an end to freedom in America.

“Talking Points is concerned that if one more left-leaning justice is appointed to the Supreme Court, one more, freedom in America will be compromised forever,” O’Reilly said. “You know what? Most Americans do not understand that at all.”

During the Talking Points memo portion of The O’Reilly Factor, O’Reilly laid into liberal justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Stephen Breyer, who voted against allowing certain privately held companies with religious objections to opt out of Obamacare’s contraception coverage mandate.

He said religious freedom is the “hallmark of the Constitution” and noted that that the “mainstream media” has made the case about birth control when in fact it affects only a limited few forms that the Hobby Lobby owners – evangelical Christians – believe are tantamount to abortion: the Plan B "morning-after pill," the Ella "morning-after pill" and hormonal and copper intrauterine devices (IUDs), according to USA Today.

O’Reilly noted that many Americans consider those birth control methods “abortion-inducing medication.”

“The very disturbing part of the Supreme Court’s opinion is that the four liberal justices apparently believe that American taxpayers should fund abortions,” O’Reilly said. “If you sincerely believe that abortion is morally wrong you have a right to opt out. These four justices would deny you that right, absolutely contradicting the Constitution. Again, that's frightening.”

He also laid into the in Harris v. Quinn decision that home health care workers in Illinois cannot be compelled to financially support a union they don’t wish to join.
