Jeb Bush's recent comments about not wanting to "sit around being miserable" and verbally attacking other people as they attack him shows he "doesn't like campaigning" and "dealing with voters," Bill Kristol tells Newsmax TV.
In a Saturday appearance in South Carolina, a visibly frustrated Bush said:
"I’ve got a lot of really cool things I could do other than sit around, being miserable, listening to people demonize me and me feeling compelled to demonize them. That is a joke. Elect [Donald] Trump if you want that.”
Kristol, editor of The Weekly Standard, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" Monday that the quote shows Bush may be nearing the end of the trail.
"It's kind of sad. It's as if he were elected he would be forced to demonize people. I mean what's he talking about?" Kristol wondered.

"I guess he doesn't like campaigning, he doesn't like the election, he doesn't like having to deal with voters. That most revealing statement is, 'there are a lot of other things I could do that would be really cool.' I mean it's not a good idea generally to tell voters you don't like mixing and mingling with them… or appealing to them, or having to explain to them why they should vote for you.
"It's usually not a good idea for politicians to show contempt for voters and I really wonder now if the Bush campaign is getting close to its last legs."
Kristol also said Ben Carson has more staying power than Trump in the race to be the top outsider candidate in the Republican presidential candidate ranks.
"Ben Carson is now beating him in three different Iowa polls by about 10 points, which tells me in Iowa, which you can say it's just one state, it's more evangelicals, it's got more homeschoolers and so forth, but historically Iowa's kind of a precursor of what happens nationally because they're so much more focused in, there's so much more campaigning there," Kristol says.
"If something catches on there, it often does forecast what's going to happen at least to some of the other states. I thought for about a month, you and I have talked about this, that Carson could become stronger than Trump.
"Carson could have more longevity as an outsider candidate… than Trump.
"You get the feeling with Trump it's kind of a fantastic joy ride but it kind of comes to an end at some point.
"I'm curious to see what happens with that."
