Catholic League's Donohue: Faithless Obama 'Believes in Nothing'

Bill Donohue, president of The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, says President Obama has no religious faith — and believes in absolutely nothing.

"I know the secular minded people. He's certainly one of them," Donohue said Friday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"I don't believe he's a Christian and I don't believe he's a Muslim … He believes in nothing, stands for nothing and he's good for nothing."

Donohue said he is peeved at Obama's indictment of Christians at the National Prayer Breakfast, at which the president compared atrocities committed in the name of Christ during the Crusades to those of the Islamic State (ISIS).

"God knows Christians have done some ugly things in history and so has every group. Why is it that every time the Muslims are being discussed about savagery, somehow it always gets back to Catholics?" Donohue said.

"If you want to get on Catholics, get them on something that we really did. We had almost nothing to do with the Inquisition — the Crusades were at war against who? Muslim madmen out of the middle ages. Some things just don't change.

"He is so willing to be sensitive to Muslims that he can't say anything even veiled in a negative way without somehow making it a forced analogy always giving it to Christians. It's amazing to me."

Donohue said the commander-in-chief's use of the prayer breakfast for his comments is puzzling.

"You know there's a lot of Christians there and [you] offend them unnecessarily about judging things up in the last thousand years," he said.

"The bottom line is we do have a serious problem and I'm tired of the dichotomy between Islam and Islamists … What I'm saying is that a very popular strain of Islam is savagery.

"The president has to say what I've just said. We are not at war with all of Islam, but we are at war with a very populist strain of it and he can't say that. If you can't diagnose the problem, how in the world can you correct it?"

Donohue's New York City-based organization states its mission is to defend "the right of Catholics – lay and clergy alike – to participate in American public life without defamation or discrimination."
