Betsy McCaughey Decries 'Ghoulish Predictions' by Obamacare Supporters

Americans need to ignore the "ghoulish predictions" being floated by Obamacare supporters who are trying to scare the public in advance of a Supreme Court decision about the president's signature healthcare law, former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey said Tuesday on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum."

"There are so many ghoulish predictions made by Obamacare supporters that if the court rules against the Obama administration, people will lose their insurance, medical care and even possibly their lives," said McCaughey.

"Don't be bamboozled by these predictions of disaster. The truly poor will not be affected by this decision."

"Nine out of 10 people who have gained coverage for the first time because of Obamacare are on Medicaid and they have nothing to worry about from this decision. People who have enrolled in the Obamacare plans and they lose their subsidies will be helped.

"The Republicans in Congress have already made a commitment to providing temporary assistance to those people until they can find other polices they can afford. People in two-thirds of the states will be relieved from the pressure of having to pay penalties, and their employers will feel free to hire people full time instead of part time, and to hire more people without worrying about going over the 50 limit."

McCaughey penned an op-ed on the subject published in Monday's New York Post.

The only losers, should the high court rule against Obamacare, are insurance companies, who are predicted to "rake in over $1 trillion of taxpayer money over the next decade providing these subsidies," she said. "They are inundating the Supreme Court with arguments to protect their cozy deal. But the fact is, everyone else is going to be taken care of."

She also weighed in on Ebola which, while continuing to spread in some areas, has seen positive developments in reducing the spread of the deadly virus as a result of things like training more medical workers and creating additional medical facilities.

McCaughey said she is sympathetic to Dallas nurse Nina Pham, who contracted the Ebola virus and is suing the hospital where she worked.

"The real culprit here is the CDC, which misled hospitals into believing that their routine and infection prevention precautions were sufficient," she said. "Those precautions aren't sufficient to stop the spread of MRSA, VRE, C.Diff infections that are killing over 75,000 Americans every year in hospitals.

"Clearly, those precautions are also inadequate to stop the spread of Ebola. Hospitals are judged based on standard of care, and there was virtually no standard of care for Ebola in the United States. We hadn't had a case."
